Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker Appoints Long Time Downtown Leader to Economic Development Post

Robert Farrington to Lead Salt Lake City’s Economic Development Efforts

 

SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker announced today the appointment of Robert Farrington to the post of Economic Development Director for Salt Lake City. Since 1992, Farrington has been an instrumental leader in the economic development of downtown Salt Lake City through his role as the Executive Director of the Downtown Alliance.

In making the announcement, Becker said, “Today marks the beginning of a bright future, not only for our City, but for the state and region. Regions prosper with a strong core. Salt Lake City can and must be THE regional leader for economic development in the Intermountain West. Our Capital City truly can emerge as a Great American City through Bob’s visionary and effective economic leadership.”

Becker characterized the decision to hire an effective, knowledgeable Economic Development Director as vital to the economic success of Salt Lake City and the Intermountain Region. “Nobody in the state is more qualified to provide that leadership as Director of Salt Lake City’s Economic Development Department than Bob Farrington,” said Becker.

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Museo Alameda – the nation’s largest Latino museum and first formal Smithsonian affiliate – announces the creation of “Mexico at the Museo,” a collection of three exhibitions of Mexican and Mexican-American art from the 16th century to modern times.

Opening June 25 and running in phases through February 22, 2009, the collection is the first of its kind to be staged in San Antonio. All were curated in Mexico and in the United States and feature artists from both countries.

Ken Halliday, chief operating officer of San Antonio-based Silver Ventures, made the announcement on Tuesday. Silver Ventures is in the process of redeveloping the 22-acre former Pearl Brewery site into a destination where tourists and locals can meet, learn, eat and be entertained.

The Pearl Brewery complex first opened in 1883 and operated as a brewery until 2001. Located just north of downtown along the banks of the San Antonio River, the complex already is home to the Culinary Institute of America-San Antonio, the Pearl Stable Recycling building, Synergy Studio and several loft apartments.
