About Fiesta San Antonio
One of America's truly great festivals, Fiesta® San Antonio is a 10-day celebration held every April to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto and to celebrate San Antonio's rich and diverse cultures. This year marks the 115th celebration!

History of Fiesta
In 1891, a group of ladies decorated horse-drawn carriages, paraded in front of the Alamo, and pelted each other with flower blossoms. The Parade was organized to honor the heroes from the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. That original "Battle of Flowers" parade became an annual event and has grown into a multi-cultural community celebration unlike any other in our country. From its small beginnings, Fiesta San Antonio has grown into an elaborate ten-day celebration featuring over 150 events, including a parade where floats really float down the San Antonio River.

The Fiesta Survival Tips:

It's Hot During Fiesta!
Before you begin packing for your trip, remember one word that can put a damper on all of your plans, "sunshine". Bring plenty of sunscreen, and light clothing. Bring an umbrella. Most of the shade is spoken for during fiesta events and its hard to cool off in direct sunlight. So just make your own!

H20
Bring plenty of water, and maybe even a spray bottle to help cool off. There is water available however it does have a hefty price tag with it. Some fiesta events do allow you to bring a back pack or something of the sorts, so make sure you call ahead.

What to Wear:
Don't wear sandals. I know it sounds funny, your 're in the sun, walking around, what could be better than your most comfortable pair of sandals? Well, there are lot of people at fiesta events, and it gets crowded. Very crowded at times. And when people crowd together they step on toes, spill drinks, and food. Get the picture? Accidents happen, and they only way to prevent accidents is by preparing ahead. We highly recommend you wear close toed shoes when experiencing any fiesta events. This will save you the unpleasant experience of walking around all day with Salsa and Beer on your feet. Just remember that steel toed shoes are not allowed into many fiesta events.

Wear light "I can get these dirty" Clothes:
I remember the first time I went to the Oyster Fest in jeans, and a button up t-shirt. Not only was I the odd ball out, but by the end of the event, not only did I look funny, I looked like my shirt had tasted everything I did. Walking through crowds and trying to eat can be a troublesome experience if you're not a seasoned professional. So bring some clothes that you dont mind getting dirty in.
